While France has made its art of living one of the ultimate expressions of its culture, Le Meurice has elevated it to the rank of fine art. Classicism and beauty in equal measure, flourish and fantasy beyond all measure confer on Le Meurice its grace, spirit and style. Excellence in service takes on its full meaning at Le Meurice, where it joins the art of welcoming guests, the art of gastronomy and gourmandise, and most importantly the art of being and well-being.
In December 2008, Franka Holtmann asked Charles Jouffre, who created the sumptuous drapes and hangings of the Grand Foyer at the Opera Garnier, to imagine a new, warmer atmosphere for Le Meurice’s guest rooms. Attentive to the desires of a discerning and cosmopolitan clientele, he brought a new touch to the specificities of a palace hotel whose intention is clearly to do different. The hotel’s rooms take on the air of an elegant eighteenth-century home, where past and present meet with humour and glamour. An artisan since the age of 16, Charles Jouffre has created curtains and upholstery for such leading interior designers as Philippe Starck and Jacques Garcia. In 1987 he opened his own atelier. As a founder member of Association Prestige et Tradition, Charles Jouffre uses seventeenth-century techniques as part of a contemporary and ecological methodology. He set out to reinterpret the very spirit of Le Meurice, to create a Home Sweet Home à la française, a style envied the world over.
The inspiration for his work lies at the heart of the 18th century, with reimagined classic furniture, a palette of light colours subtly lifted with bright accent tones, noble and truly traditional materials, and a contemporary, couture approach… a soothing environment intended as an invitation to travel. Charles Jouffre worked in close consultation with Sandrine Chollet, interior designer, to reinstate the existing furniture, and to transform each room into a made-to-measure haven providing comfort throughout the night, and the day.
From April, Le Meurice opens the doors of its new guest rooms and suites for a unique experience, and invites you to discover a world of precious, intimate, infinite affinities. More than ever, the art of being and well-being is elevated to the rank of fine art.
