Over 200 uniquely crafted eggs created by leading artists, designers, architects and jewellers are being displayed throughout central London. A unique Dorchester Collection sponsored egg designed by eminent British artist Sir Peter Blake takes pride of place in front of The Dorchester on Park Lane.
With an instantly recognisable, cheerful blue and white striped design inspired by Cornishware, Sir Peter Blake chose to concentrate on a main component of hotel breakfasts: a boiled egg in an egg cup. “Simple is best. An egg is an egg”, states Sir Peter, who continues his relationship with Dorchester Collection through the Big Egg Hunt initiative. Works by the ‘Grand Old Man of English Pop-art’ are displayed in the Penthouse Suite of 45 Park Lane, Dorchester Collection’s newest London property, where works by ten leading contemporary British artists are exhibited throughout the hotel.
Now in his eighties, Sir Peter Blake remains a bastion of British contemporary art, conveying through his art the world around him in a deeply personal, idiosyncratic manner. He represents an aspect of Pop-art that could only ever be construed as English.
During the Big Egg Hunt, Dorchester Collection’s landmark London hotel The Dorchester will also display the official Fabergé egg, designed by renowned British designer Nicky Haslam, in The Promenade. To accompany this, The Grill has created Eggs Fabergé, a decadent lunch menu starter of quail’s egg with smoked duck and black truffle consommé. Available until 9 April, it is priced at £19.50; fifty percent of all proceeds will go to The Big Egg Hunt charities.
