Terres d’Islam at the Musée Ariana
28 February 2014 - 31 August 2014
A new exhibition at the Musée Ariana – Geneva’s dedicated ceramic and glass museum – plumbs the rich depths of its Islamic sculpture collection.
The museum’s vast collection of Islamic sculptural objects includes more than 700 individual exhibits. The artefacts originate from a wide date range (from the ninth to the 19th centuries), and are sourced from a number of different regions across the East, from Iran and Turkey to Egypt and Syria – there are even objects from Islamic Spain present. Conceived of as a follow-up to a 2006 exhibition that covered Italian sculpture, this new show documents both the famous and the lesser-known, damaged or controversial items now owned by the Musée Ariana.
