Manon

14 January 2014 - 04 February 2014
Jules Massenet’s eternal opera of love won and lost will return to the Royal Opera House this winter.

This five-act opera centres on the character of Manon Lescaut, a young woman who is torn between her first love and her interest in advancing her status. After meeting her first beloved, Des Grieux, the two escape together to Paris. However, Manon comes to lose interest in him, and after abandoning him for the chance to rise further in society, the tale meets with an unhappy end. One of the world’s most popular operas, this production of Massenet’s work is directed by Laurent Pelly.
