The consummate Romantic ballet, Giselle returns to the stage at the Royal Opera House this January.
The popular ballet is set in the medieval era, and tells the story of Giselle, a young and beautiful village girl. She attracts the attention of Duke Albrecht, and he disguises himself as a peasant to win her heart. However, he is already betrothed, and when Giselle discovers his secret her weak heart gives out. The second act of the ballet continues after her death, when she is transformed into a captivating spirit who lures the unfaithful duke to an enchanting and dangerous forest. The Royal Opera House will present the Peter Wright production of Marius Petipa’s story.
