Vikings: Life and Legend

06 March 2014 - 22 June 2014
The British Museum is presenting a new banner exhibition that investigates Viking history and culture, the first of its kind in more than three decades.

Focusing on the heart of the Viking Age, from the 8th to the 11th centuries, this new exhibition explores what it meant to be a Viking, including a look into associated warrior culture. Featured in the new show are a number of recently discovered artefacts on display in the UK for the first time, including gold and silver jewellery, coins and other metalworks; these are being shown alongside items from the museum’s permanent collection. Arguably the highlight of the show is Roskilde 6, an original Viking ship excavated from a Danish fjord.
