Mike Kelley at The Geffen Contemporary

31 March 2014 - 28 July 2014
The largest ever exhibition of American contemporary artist Mike Kelley’s work, this new show at The Geffen Contemporary is his first retrospective since 1993.

Kelley, who passed away two years ago, was born in Detroit and later relocated to Los Angeles. His work focused on themes of repression and the conflict between the self and society and between the sacred and the profane. He created artworks across a broad range of media, from performance, music and sculpture, to video, photography and painting, and this new show expresses his creative diversity. This exhibition will be held in The Geffen Contemporary building of MOCA, which was formerly a warehouse for police cars before being redesigned by architect Frank Gehry.
