African Cosmos: Stellar Arts at LACMA

24 August 2014 - 30 November 2014
The first such exhibition of its kind, the new African Cosmos: Stellar Arts show is a groundbreaking collection of ancient and contemporary African artwork.

Designed to explore the connection between modern African art and the longstanding tradition of cultural astronomy in Africa, this exhibition was first showcased at the National Museum of African Art in Washington, D.C. Now, visitors and locals to the Los Angeles area can discover and enjoy these rare works, which take their inspiration from African ritual and astronomical tradition. The artwork on display represents cultures and artists from across the continent, and includes items as varied as Yoruba divination instruments and Egyptian sculpture to Malian Dogon masks and contemporary South African pieces.
