Le Surréalisme et l’Objet

01 December 2013 - 03 March 2014
A broad and striking exhibition at the Centre Pompidou provides a new, complex perspective on the Surrealist movement, its artists, and its best-known works.

Included in the large-scale show are a number of famous pieces by artists affiliated with the movement, from the Dadaist photographs of Man Ray to the ready-mades of Duchamp, the sculptures of Giacometti, the chance compositions of Hans Arp, and the jarring constructions
of Meret Oppenheim (including her famous sculpture which shows a pair of women’s shoes trussed like a roast chicken). From the founding manifesto written by André Breton to the group’s political activism and the various sub-movements it spawned, this exhibition provides a compelling look into the history and context of Surrealism.
