11 March 2014 - 15 April 2014
One of Mozart’s best-known and most beloved operas, Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute) will return to the stage at the Opéra Bastille this spring.
The two-act opera appeals to all ages, given its mixture of comedy, fable and magical storytelling. The plot centres on Tamino, a young prince who has become lost while travelling in a magical country. He comes across the buffoonish Papageno, a comical bird-catcher, and is quickly given a mission: to save Pamina, the daughter of the Queen of the Night. After being provided with a magical flute to protect him on his journey, Tamino’s quest begins. Boasting some of Mozart’s most memorable compositions, including the Queen of the Night aria, this production of the classic work will be directed by Robert Carsen.
