Bill Viola at the Grand Palais

05 March 2014 - 28 July 2014
The monumental, striking work of Bill Viola, one of the most important contemporary artists working in the video medium, will be presented at the Grand Palais this March.

One of the largest retrospectives ever devoted to the artist, this new exhibition will feature 20 of Viola’s key pieces, which together comprise hours of video performance. Inspired by artists as diverse as Giotto, Goya and Bosch, Viola delves with his large-scale compositions into questions of identity. Major themes include metaphysical questioning, transcendence and rebirth, as well as elemental imagery: water and fire figure heavily into his video exploration of the human experience. Within the sweeping proportions of the Grand Palais, his works are certain to engage viewers.
