Magiciens de la Terre at Centre Pompidou
02 July 2014 - 08 August 2014
In honour of the seminal 1989 Magiciens de la Terre exhibition, Centre Pompidou is hosting a documentary show that examines its influence on contemporary art.
The original Magiciens de la Terre exhibition was the brainchild of curator Jean-Hubert Martin. Created in response to an earlier exposition at New York’s MoMA that examined contemporary art in a culturally limited capacity, this exhibition puts full focus on artists from previously ‘invisible’ backgrounds (Asia, Africa, and Oceania) that had been largely disregarded by the art world establishment. Now considered to be one of the most important exhibitions of the late 20th century, the original Magiciens de la Terre is being explored in a documentary exhibition curated by Didier Schulmann. On display will be photographs, drawings, diaries, films and other evocative mementos.
