Mapplethorpe – Rodin at the Musée Rodin

08 April 2014 - 21 September 2014
Debuted in tandem with the Robert Mapplethorpe retrospective at the Grand Palais, this exhibition at the Musée Rodin explores the famed photographer’s sculptural tendencies.

Constructing a new dialogue between the striking, black and white works of Mapplethorpe alongside the dynamic, figurative sculptures of Rodin, this exhibition seeks to prove that the two artists, despite their different approaches, actually shared a great deal of creative impulses. Seeking parallels in the two artists’ oeuvres along themes ranging from eroticism to movement, light and shadow to damnation, the curators trace a number of threads between the two. The large-scale show will include 50 of Rodin’s sculptures and 102 photographs on loan from the Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation.
