Capturing the Castle: Watercolours of Windsor by Paul and Thomas Sandby
07 February 2014 - 05 May 2014
February sees the opening of this exhibition of watercolours by ‘the father of English watercolour’, Paul Sandby, and his brother Thomas Sandby.
In 1752, the two brothers set to work producing dozens of watercolours of Windsor Castle and the surrounding landscape. The 19 paintings on display here provide a visual record of Windsor during the reign of George III, and offer an interesting point of comparison for those visiting the Castle today. Between 11th February and 1st May, a guided tour lasting two and a half hours will be available for groups of 15 or more persons who will receive an introductory talk, refreshments, and audio guide for use in the exhibition.
