Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris
18 May 2014
Also known informally as ‘the French Grand National,’ the Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris
is a landmark event in the country’s equestrian calendar.
Since 1847, this high-intensity race has drawn spectators to the Hippodrome d’Auteuil, otherwise known as ‘the temple to jumps racing.’ The course is legendary: one of the world’s longest jumps races, and featuring a whopping 23 obstacles, the Grand Steeple-Chase is famously challenging for riders and exhilarating for spectators. Back for its 136th edition this year, the race was won last year by jockey Bertrand Lestrade and mount Bel La Vie. In addition to the race itself, spectators can also visit one of the luxurious bars and restaurants on-site when in need of refreshment.
