‘From Club to Catwalk: London Fashion in the 80s’ at the V&A

16 February 2014
A new exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum chronicles the creative outpouring of the 1980s through the lens of fashion and design.

Consisting of more than 85 outfits, the ‘From Club to Catwalk’ collection chronicles the boldness and energy of the British design scene during the 1980s. Known as a period of sartorial theatricality and excess, the decade saw the rise of a number of prominent designers (Betty Jackson, Katharine Hamnett, John Galliano, and Wendy Dagworthy will all be featured). The exhibition will also trace the evolution of clubbing fashion, the growth of new styles like High Camp and New Romantic, and how magazines like i-D and Blitz helped propel these looks from the streets to the realm of high fashion.
