Alex Zouaghi, the passionate photographer, established blogger and endless wanderer behind the popular @a_ontheroad Instagram account, shares with us his favourite hidden shopping gems in London.

Marchesi
As the only Marchesi pastry shop and café outside its native Milan, this London outpost has established itself as a firm favourite in Mayfair. It’s the perfect spot to watch the world go by with a good espresso or chilled glass of prosecco in hand, as you decide which one of its many sweet delicacies to enjoy.

Mercato Mayfair
This vibrant food hall is located in a refurbished Grade I-listed former church, making Mercato one of London’s most surprising dining discoveries. Spread over four floors and drawing on different cultures, the focus is a winning combination of authentic flavours and sustainable practices.

Chiltern Street
For one of London’s coolest shopping destinations, head to Chiltern Street in the heart of Marylebone. Start your tour by taking a moment to admire the Victorian gothic architecture, before choosing which of its many beautiful independent boutiques and eateries you want to visit first.

Paxton & Whitfield
For a serious selection of exceptional British and international cheeses that you’re welcome to try before you buy, Paxton & Whitfield is the place to be. If 200 years of experience and a collection of royal warrants doesn’t convince you, the fine flavours will.

Maison Assouline
Founded by Martine and Prosper Assouline, Maison Assouline is a calm oasis amidst the busyness of bustling Piccadilly. Created for curious minds, this concept store is home to the most compelling coffee table books, rare vintage gifts and an elegant bar serving sophisticated cocktails.

Pantechnicon
Nordic and Japanese dining meet seamlessly at the five-storey shopping and dining destination of Pantechnicon. From the ground floor Café Kitsuné to the rooftop garden restaurant overlooking Belgravia, and regular cultural experiences such as yoga classes, ceramic workshops and menu tastings – this is a real find.

Jermyn Street
The prime location of the finest tailors and menswear in town, Jermyn Street has been specialising in exquisite craftsmanship since 1664. In amongst its impressive array of suits and shirts you’ll also find quality leather goods and perfumers.

The Royal Arcade
This grade II-listed Victorian arcade is one of the oldest and grandest shopping arcades in London. With a diverse assortment of fine jewellery, antiques, footwear and sweet treats, shopping at The Royal Arcade is a real joy.

Duke Street
Connecting Marylebone, Mayfair and Oxford Street, Duke Street has something to catch everyone’s eye. Highlights include authentic barbers Ted’s Grooming Room, fashionable footwear specialist Penelope Chilvers, and the rejuvenated oasis of Brown Hart Gardens.

Burlington Arcade
Dating from 1819, this wonderfully preserved Regency shopping arcade remains one of London’s most iconic shopping destinations. With a selection of boutiques ranging from luxury perfume and leather goods to vintage watches and beauty brands, Burlington Arcade is the place to go when only the very best will do.
