1.1-mile route (1.8km)
Starting from the hotel, this route will take you past Piazza della Repubblica to the corner of the Indro Montanelli Gardens, where you can begin the circuit. On entering the park, head right towards the magnificent Palazzo Dugnani, past the fountain, and continue to the edge of the park. Then follow the boundary until you reach the striking Museo Civico di Storia Naturale building and loop around in front. Continue past the Planetario Ulrico Hoepli, with the historical Porta Venezia gate on your right. Finally, run back along the edge of the park on your way back to the hotel.
Palazzo Dugnani – This grand 17th century building is a restored palace now used for conferences and exhibitions.
Museo Civico di Storia Naturale – The oldest civic museum in Milan, this striking red stone building houses fascinating exhibits, such as real dinosaur skeletons.
Planetario Ulrico Hoepli – Step into a galactic experience like no other in Milan’s planetarium, which hosts guided projections every weekend.
Porta Venezia – Once an important defence structure, this historical gate now marks the entrance to the popular Porta Venezia shopping district.
Depending on the time of year, it can get very warm in Milan, so it’s important to make sure your running gear is lightweight and breathable. Choose well-fitting shoes to avoid getting blisters.
Make sure you’re fuelled for exercise with a nutritious meal around two hours before you run. To reap the benefits, it’s also a good idea to choose protein-rich foods after your workout to help your muscles recover.
This route guide should help you stay on track but if you’re not familiar with the area, it’s helpful to take along a GPS or map.
Remember to stretch your muscles immediately after a run to prevent stiffness. Hold each stretch for around 30 seconds.
