Henley Royal Regatta
First staged in 1839, Henley Royal Regatta is the world’s most famous boating extravaganza, attracting 300,000 well-heeled visitors every year. Cheer on Olympians and amateurs as they row in 300 races on the 1.6km/1 mile course on the River Thames, from Temple Island towards Henley-on-Thames. The Stewards’ Enclosure, near the finish line, has a formal dress code where ties, cravats and hats take centre stage – which is all part of the fun, of course.

Commemorating the Platinum Jubilee
To celebrate 70 years of HM The Queen’s reign, catch a rare glimpse of the coronation dress and ‘robe of estate’ she wore in 1953, in the ticketed exhibition Platinum Jubilee: The Queen’s Accession at Windsor Castle. The white duchesse satin dress, richly embroidered in a lattice-work effect, was designed by British couturier Sir Norman Hartnell. Look closely at the velvet train of the ‘robe of estate’, embroidered with golden wheat ears and olive branches, designed by royal robe-makers Ede and Ravenscroft – the oldest tailors in London.

Driven to distraction at Salon Privé
The UK’s most exclusive motor show returns to the South Lawn in the grounds of Sir Winston Churchill’s ancestral home, Blenheim Palace. Salon Privé showcases more than 1,000 rare, vintage cars and motorcycles, from Edwardian relics to classic racers. As well as browsing the exhibition, you can attend a Champagne reception or mingle over a three-course meal. Take your pick from the wrought iron Glass House, which overlooks the palace, or the Churchill Pavilion marquee, which becomes a starry affair filled with white floating lanterns after dusk.

A hole in one at Wentworth Golf Club
One of the highlights of the British summer, the annual men’s professional golf tournament, BMW PGA Championship, held at the 1,730-acre Wentworth Golf Club in Virginia Water, is part of the European Tour. Home to a former private residence dating back to 1805, the original Ryder Cup started here – golf legends Rory McIlroy and Colin Montgomerie are past players – and it’s celebrating its 100th year in 2022. Book a seat in the grandstand to watch golfing greats tee off on West Course, one of the ground’s three courses.
