The best of Milan Design Week
Hotel Principe di Savoia is expecting guests for Milan’s annual Design Week (Salone del Mobile), which takes place between April 4-9 this year. The event, which showcases the best in design from around the world, brings with it a plethora of events, exhibitions and creative forums for industry professionals and design lovers alike.
Milan is well known for its beautiful architecture, fashion and design traditions and offers the perfect backdrop to the event. Hotel Principe di Savoia also enjoys uninterrupted views of some of Milan’s most inspiring architecture, design and urban development. The hotel overlooks the stunning infrastructure of Milan Porta Nuova, one of the biggest urban requalification projects in Europe. This area artfully blends the local cultural identity and provides the perfect setting for a relaxing stroll.
There is no end of exquisite places to see in Milan however, there are some architectural and design-led highlights you should not miss during this special week. The Diamante Tower with the Diamantini – smaller elements connected to the main building – is a must-see. So too is the Solaria Tower, the Isola neighbourhood with the new Palace of the Region, Catella Foundation, the Vertical Wood (pictured here) and Gae Aulentic Square with the Unicredit Skyscraper. Ask the concierge for help with directions and for further suggestions.
Slightly further from the hotel is 5 Vie Art & Design, which is considered the beating heart of Milan Old Town. With its enviable location near Sant’Ambrogio, Duomo and Cordusio – it’s an area rich in cultural heritage that comes alive during the Salone, offering workshops, arts, ateliers and creative shops that specialise in design and innovation.
Beyond the official exhibition at the Salone, the city of Milan offers several special events and outdoor attractions at what is called Fuorisalone. For design lovers, there are plenty of opportunities to socialise at one of the many cocktail parties taking place.
