Explore Rome with Luca Virgilio

August 30, 2019

Our charismatic general manager at Hotel Eden, Luca Virgilio, is passionate about his family, his hotel and the city of Rome.

What’s the best way to discover Rome for the first time?

Visit the major sights but leave time to wander the little back streets, as Rome is a true open-air museum where beauty can be found in the most unexpected of places.

Who epitomises Rome for you?

Marcello Mastroianni, the leading man in Fellini’s La Dolce Vita. For me he epitomises Rome’s romantic, elegant and playful character.

What’s your favourite Italian dish?

I love the intense flavour of a classic carbonara. It’s definitely not an everyday dish but when I indulge I want to do it properly.

What gets you out of bed in the morning?

The love and the passion for what I do.

What’s your ideal day out in Rome?

There’s nothing better than cycling alongside the Tiber with my wife and daughter on a sunny day, especially when we stop off for a leisurely family lunch in the Trastevere neighbourhood.

What’s the most interesting thing you’ve made happen for a guest?

A guest wanted to visit Galleria Borghese, my favourite museum in Rome, on a day that it was closed and undergoing works. We managed to arrange for him to have a private tour, something that’s never normally possible and he was absolutely thrilled.

What’s your favourite monument in Rome?

Without shadow of a doubt the Pantheon! I admire its ‘simplicity’ and at the same time it’s so majestic.

Best advice you’ve been given?

A guest once told me to look up when strolling around the city and never take its beauty for granted. It made me see Rome from a different angle, so now I walk whenever I can. It always puts me in a positive mood.

I trust now you know me a little better that I can look forward to welcoming you to Hotel Eden and the many delights of Rome in the near future.
