Festivities at The Dorchester

November 26, 2016

Don’t miss our gingerbread hotel

Once again The Dorchester takes gingerbread houses to a new level. Watch in wonder as you discover the hotel brought to life in gingerbread form, as executive chef Henry Brosi’s masterpiece takes centre stage in the hotel lobby. It features exquisite details such as The Penthouse and Pavilion rooms, The Grill at The Dorchester, and even tiny guests enjoying afternoon tea in The Promenade. Weighing in at a calorific 150kg, with over 8,000 pieces of gingerbread, it’s a delicious way to take a peek inside the hotel and is sure to capture the imagination of every sweet-toothed visitor.

Sweet treats

‘Tis the season to indulge, so while you admire the gingerbread hotel you can celebrate the season with a Festive Champagne Afternoon Tea. With just a few days to go until the main event on the 25th, there’s plenty of time to indulge in a few pre-Christmas treats, such as scones, pastries and cakes. To accompany the classic fare, talented pastry chef David Girard has created surprise festive twists on traditional pastries and cakes. Expertly decorated for the season, the heart of the hotel will glitter with festive touches, while the songs of the resident pianist complete the appeal.

Just inside the lobby, children will love the specially designed Sweet Emporium, opening up a whole world of classic English sweets such as candy canes and giant twirl lollipops, along with few retro favourites such as flying saucers and dolly mixtures. Two life-sized nutcracker soldiers stand guard at the door of this magical candy kingdom.

Exploring London

While you are with us, why not make the most of your time in London. The Christmas lights are on and Christmas shoppers are out in full force, so take a trip to the luxury boutiques on nearby Bond Street. If you’re looking to avoid the crowds, head to Borough Market, London’s most historical food market, for a whole host of gourmet delights. For family fun, opt for a trip to a West End show or perhaps the ballet. This year’s The Nutcracker at the Royal Opera House, danced by The Royal Ballet to Tchaikovsky’s spellbinding score, would make an unforgettable experience. Ask our theatre ticket manager, who is also based in the lobby, for personal recommendations.
