Best face forward for the festive season

November 20, 2019

Ahead of the festivities, our skincare expert at The Spa at Hotel Bel-Air, Lene Bredesen, reveals her expert tips for radiant skin. It’s time to get party ready!

See the difference

The favourite part of my role at The Spa at Hotel Bel-Air is watching clients’ reactions when they look in the mirror after a treatment and are delighted to see an instant improvement. If glowing skin is on your wish list, these top tips are for you.

Double cleansing

I’m always promoting the advantages of double cleansing, especially for those living in a city environment. I like to use a cleansing oil first because it lifts away the skin’s impurities, allowing a second cleanser to fully do its job.

Regular exfoliation

I’m a huge fan of the benefits of exfoliating and recommend three or four times a week to really enhance your skin’s radiance. It’s best done at night to give you super-clean skin that can easily absorb rich night serums and moisturisers while you sleep.

Choose your base

The biggest decision regarding foundation is often whether to go for a matte or dewy finish. A delicate powdery formula can blur the appearance of wrinkles, while a silky satin finish diffuses light for a healthy glow. The secret for either effect is to build up coverage gradually to get the look you want.

Less is more

Makeup always looks best when it’s used to enhance your features rather than cover up. By cleansing properly and exfoliating regularly you’re priming your skin so makeup is merely the finishing touch. For a natural look I sometimes apply products directly using my fingertips, as the heat from your hands helps products glide on more easily.

Pre-party prep

Before a special occasion or big night out, it’s a great idea to have a facial to give your skin a boost. My personal favourites are our Radiance and Hydration Rituals, either the day before your event or on the day itself. These treatments feature a collagen mask to noticeably plump and smooth your skin.

Keep it clean

Get into the habit of cleaning your makeup brushes and sponges once a week. It will make a difference to both the application of your makeup and help keep your skin blemish-free. A couple of drops of gentle face wash or shampoo with some lukewarm water will do the trick.

Beauty sleep

The importance of sleeping well is the beauty tip we all know but often need reminding of. There’s a reason we call it beauty sleep, this is when our bodies get the best chance to relax and rejuvenate. Trust me, regular deep sleep is one of the best things you can do for great looking skin.
