Better by routine

I believe the biggest secret to wellness is to bring achievable routines into the way we live our daily lives. For example, we don’t forget to brush our teeth because it’s so ingrained in our morning and evening routine. If you can introduce regular movement, a balanced diet, quality sleep and moments of ‘me time’ into your day, you’ll find it’s so much easier to live a fit and healthy life – and trust me, the payoff of feeling reinvigorated is well worth it.

Domino effect

Start making a difference by choosing one thing you can change in your life for the better. Most people find that a single change often sparks another, leading to a domino effect. I know when I sleep better I’m more likely to have the energy to exercise, and when I exercise I’m more likely to make healthier food choices. Rather than getting intimidated at the thought of a big shift, simply start small and see where it takes you.

Pillars of wellness

Sleep well

Good quality sleep is essential for our wellbeing. A set routine is a wonderful way to prepare your body for winding down at the end of the day, so when it’s time to sleep your body is ready to switch off. Things like not eating too late at night and avoiding alcohol really help. Many people also find that a warm bath before bedtime and switching off your phone an hour before you intend to go to sleep works well. The key is to find out what helps you and stick to it.

Get a great start

A set morning routine is an excellent way to get your day off to the best possible start. For me, that means drinking a large glass of water as soon as I wake up, lemon water if I want something more refreshing, followed by a workout. Some mornings that’s going to the gym and other days, especially if I’m away from home, a series of stretches. Next, I have a shower using a fragrant aromatherapy shower gel; it’s a quick fire way to give yourself an instant boost.

Eat the rainbow

It’s true that we are what we eat. Our bodies needs a balanced diet in order to receive all the vital vitamins and minerals we require. Our skin has the amazing capacity to renew itself every 35 days but, in order to radiate good health, we have to ensure it has the right nourishment. We all know that when we eat well we feel so much better – both mentally and physically – and I can’t think of a better incentive than that for healthy eating. Choosing a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables is an easy and appealing way to help you stay on track.

Peace of mind

Last, but definitely not least, is to take time out to tune in to how you’re feeling. Every now and then I try to step back and look at my lifestyle, think about any changes I would like to make, and enjoy a little ‘me time’, even if it’s just for a few precious moments. Only when we feel good about ourselves are we able to be there for others and live our own lives to the full.

There are so many easy ways that we can create positive changes in our lives so be sure to take time to find the ones that work for you. And when you need a little extra pampering, our expert spa therapists are here to help.
