Welcome to Milan – the fashion capital of Italy
Milan is a popular destination for fashion all year round, and during Fashion Week, the streets buzz with designers, models, photographers and journalists, who all descend on the city to take part in the biggest event on the Milanese calendar.
Twice a year the city hosts more than 170 shows and presentations, promoting both new talent and the established Italian fashion powerhouses that have earned Milan its reputation as a fashion capital of Italy.
Many of the fashion events take place on the doorstep of Hotel Principe Savoia in the stunning Porta Nuova district, a vibrant area of modern skyscrapers and contemporary architecture which is quickly becoming known as the fashion centre of the city.
Piazza Gae Aulenti
In the heart of the Porta Nuova district, Piazza Gae Aulenti is a lively square which hosts the Milano Moda Donna Fashion Hub. This area is fast becoming known as an emblem of the new Milan, featuring striking modern architecture and new luxury shops.
This landmark building is an architectural wonder in the Porta Nuova district. During Fashion Week, it also makes an exciting setting for the Fashion Hub Market, a new project of the Italian National Chamber of Fashion, which supports and promotes emerging brands from all over the world.
Fabbrica del Vapore
Once an industrial factory, Le Fabbrica del Vapore is now a vibrant arts centre which hosts regular events throughout the year. For Fashion Week, the space is transformed into a fashion hall and exhibition space.
In the historic Duomo area, the National Chamber of Fashion opens the doors of the Sala delle Cariatidi in the royal palace for fashion shows. Along the walls of this magnificent room stand forty 18th century sculptures of mythological figures, creating an unforgettable backdrop to the catwalks.
Museo Nazionale Scienza e Tecnologia
Spazio Cavallerizze is the new Milano Moda Donna location at Museo Nazionale Scienza e Tecnologia, the largest science and technology museum in Italy. The vast 1,600m2/17,222ft2 space hosts a fashion hall and two presentation areas.
This converted gin distillery brings a fresh perspective to traditional exhibition spaces, hosting contemporary arts events in restored warehouses, laboratories and brewing silos which date back to 1910. Inside you’ll find a gallery space which hosts modern art performances, an auditorium for Prada’s collection, as well as a lively bar and cinema.
Located in the heart of Milan, Hotel Principe di Savoia makes an ideal base for exploring the best of the city’s shops and fashion events. Join us as Fashion Week returns this year on Wednesday, February 21 – 27, 2018.
