Red, Hôtel Plaza Athénée’s emblematic colour, is now also going green!
At Hôtel Plaza Athénée we are proud to invest in the sustainable development of economic, social and environmental areas. It’s not only a commitment; we are undertaking real actions.
As part of this, we are delighted to unveil our new set of strategies to work towards a sustainable future. We’ve based these on Dorchester Collection’s core and mission values, which spearhead corporate responsibility in the fair treatment of our people, responsiveness to our guests, environmental responsibility and ethical business practices.
In 1999, a devastating storm hit the Palace of Versailles and caused monumental damage, so for the past 18 years, Hôtel Plaza Athénée has been working alongside the palace to replace 10,000 trees, as part of the 10,000 Trees for Versailles project.
We’ve also supported numerous projects in the grounds, including restoration of an antique marble bench, installation of a new bench in the castle’s main courtyard and the planting of a further 115 lime trees at L’Etoile Royale in the palace grounds. The future looks positive, as we work towards plans to renovate the Château-Neuf Orangery at the Petit Trianon palace.
Reducing energy consumption
Every four years, we participate in a carbon audit to measure the impact of our carbon footprint, and highlight our energy, transport and purchases consumption. Following each audit we devise a long-term strategy to reduce our carbon dioxide emissions.
Reducing our energy consumption is important to us, which is why we’ve installed LED bulbs in 95% of our lighting. We’re also dedicated to recycling waste to create green fuel, donating products to charitable causes, switching electronic devices to standby, and regulating our air-conditioning and heating using a centralised management system.
We’re proud to serve a variety of organic and gluten-free options in our restaurants, to make the most of the finest seasonal produce. Over the past three years, together with the Versailles Palace, we’ve grown produce using traditional and sustainable production methods, overseen by Alain Baraton, the chief gardener at Trianon Palace. These ingredients are then transformed into delicious dishes served at Alain Ducasse au Plaza Athénée.
Investing in our community
Hôtel Plaza Athénée works on increasing social responsibility and consistently supports the local community. One example is our partnership with La Roche-Guyon children’s hospital. Each month, our in-house committee organises activities, such as entertainment for the children, and helping out by organising volunteers to paint areas in the hospital.
