Learning and development

It is our mission to be the ultimate hotel management company with a passion for excellence; we nurture and develop excellence in our people. By joining Dorchester Collection you can look forward to attending many innovative classroom and work based learning events within our very own Academy. Here is an overview of some of the learning opportunities you could attend.


Engage is our unique induction programme. The first days of your journey with Dorchester Collection will be hosted by your Learning & Development team. You will meet your General Manager and lots of other team members from your hotel and will learn about the history of your hotel and receive a detailed tour of all the rooms, public areas as well as the all-important back of the house areas. Engage is the very start of our employee engagement journey, you will learn all about our mission and values and all about our iconic collection of hotels as well as completing any necessary admin making sure that you are comfortable and prepared to begin in your department.

Core skills

During the first 3 months of life at Dorchester Collection you will be introduced to our exacting standards through a series of core skills learning sessions. You will learn how to deliver the ultimate guest service, advanced communication skills and how to recover the service when things go wrong. You will also be introduced to our personal development process where you will be able to receive detailed two-way feedback on your performance.

Leadership development

We achieve our mission through highly skilled and decisive leadership; we achieve that by attracting the best talent towards our organisation, then investing heavily in learning & development. When you join the leadership team of your hotel you will attend progressive training courses, some of which are detailed below.


Lead is our supervisor development programme for our team members that are new to leadership. LEAD consists of 9 classroom days spread over 1 year with structured activities to complete in-between. LEAD gives new leaders the skills and confidence to delight our guests and successfully lead their teams in line with Dorchester Collection mission and values.


Expand is our development experience for heads of department and high potential managers. It is an holistic and memorable 3 days where managers discover themselves and how they can positively impact their teams and business performance.


When you become an executive with Dorchester Collection you can look forward to attending an innovative development and reflection week, where our senior Executives receive 360 feedback and personality profiles in order to discover more about who they are as a leader and to provide inspirational leadership to their teams.
