Our favourite festive memories

December 03, 2019

The festive season is a time for enjoying all the good things in life and a chance to reminisce. Take a look back with us at some of our most memorable holiday highlights.

Ascot

Coworth Park

“As soon as the Christmas decorations are in place everyone starts feeling festive. The highlight is when Father Christmas arrives ringing his bell and wishing all the children Happy Christmas in his big booming voice. He always thanks them for the mince pies and sherry they left on the piano for him the night before. It’s simply charming.”

Clair Ratcliffe Speakman, Head Doorman

Los Angeles

Hotel Bel-Air

“Every weekend in December we serve our guests homemade gingerbread cookies and hot apple cider in the lobby. It’s a real hit with our guests and brings out the holiday spirit in everyone. The wonderfully festive aroma and friendly ambiance enhances the relaxed and friendly feeling of our hotel.”

Kayal Moore, Assistant Director of Rooms

BEVERLY HILLS

The Beverly Hills Hotel

“My favourite thing about Christmas time at The Beverly Hills Hotel is how we bring the Santa experience to children who are away from home. We make sure Santa Claus knows what each child likes, and the look on their faces when he remembers them is absolutely priceless.”

Steven Boggs, Director of Global Guest Relations

PARIS

Hôtel Plaza Athénée

“A guest once explained that his wife’s dream was to visit Paris for Christmas but that they were always unable to travel at that time of year. He asked if I could transform their suite into a ‘little bit of Christmas’, so we filled it with festive decorations, a Christmas tree and fake snow – even though they were staying in August!”

Louise Prevost, Guest Relations Manager

PARIS

Le Meurice

“We have a regular guest who stays at Le Meurice for months at a time and has celebrated Christmas with us for the last 15 years. She has created a lovely tradition by inviting myself and a member of our concierge team to help her decorate the Christmas tree in her room each year. It’s something special I always look forward to.”

Souhade Chikhaoui, Director Restaurant Le Dalì

ROME

Hotel Eden

“One Christmas a little girl lost her pyjamas when they were sent to the laundry by mistake. I managed to track them down and had them delivered to her room on the Italian holiday we call ‘La Befana’, a day when children traditionally receive gifts from an old lady on a broomstick. I don’t own a broomstick but it still worked like a charm and the girl was delighted to see both ‘La Befana’ and her pyjamas.”

Margherita Zambuco, Housekeeping Manager

MILAN

Hotel Principe di Savoia

“I remember one particular company hosting a Christmas party for their employees’ children one year. We created a spectacular winter wonderland with snowflakes, Christmas trees and Father Christmas in a sleigh full of presents. It was a magical celebration I’ll never forget.”

Lucia Di Maggio, Assistant Executive Housekeeper

LONDON

The Dorchester

“I’ve celebrated Christmas many times at The Dorchester but I always fondly remember the time we arranged for a boy to find a rocking horse in his room on Christmas morning. He was absolutely spellbound by the magic of it all and intrigued by the half-eaten mince pies and carrots left behind by Father Christmas and Rudolph.”

Harry Deasy, Head Concierge

LONDON

45 Park Lane

“For me it’s wonderful to see the smiles on our guests’ faces when they first set eyes on our Christmas decorations. Phil Hammond, our designer florist, always works his magic and his team also decorate Christmas trees for individual suites when asked, providing a real sense of home.”

Niamh Larkin, Executive Pastry Chef
