Los Angeles is known for its relaxed outdoor lifestyle and stellar lineup of exceptionally beautiful beaches. Here are some of our favourite spots along the coast for soaking up the glorious California sunshine.

Santa Monica State Beach

This classic stretch of white sand is one of the most popular beaches in LA. Located just north of the Santa Monica pier, this two-mile stretch is the perfect place for anyone looking to be in the heart of Santa Monica and enjoy the beachfront. Whether you are looking to play a game of volleyball or catch some rays, this family-friendly beach will not disappoint.

El Matador State Beach, Malibu

Located about 10 miles northwest of Malibu, this secluded collection of three small cliff-foot beaches offers views of some of the clearest water in LA. The stretch of sand features rocky shores, great waves, and is widely considered one of the most romantic beaches in the city.

Paradise Cove Beach, Malibu

This beach is tucked beneath the cliffs of Malibu and truly lives up to its name as an undeniable paradise. It has starred as a beautiful backdrop for many classic Hollywood movies, thanks to its swaying palm trees, clean sand and dramatic sandstone cliffs. Beach beds and lounge chairs are available for rent along with large umbrellas for an idyllic seaside escape.

Zuma Beach, Malibu

A popular spot for locals and destination beachgoers, Zuma offers the perfect stretch of sand and surf in Malibu. This local gem is a piece of paradise for all who walk along it. With 1.8 miles of beach frontage, it remains popular with residents and visitors alike.

Hermosa Beach

If you find yourself in the South Bay, make sure Hermosa Beach is on your list. This stylish spot offers plenty of space for sunbathing, accompanied by a paved walkway for biking and strolling. With almost two miles of ocean frontage, Hermosa is one of the most popular beaches in LA. You will find plenty of activities to keep the entire family entertained here all day.

Manhattan Beach

Just above Hermosa, this laid-back South Bay beach attracts both families and outdoor enthusiasts alike. The wide stretches of sand are lined with volleyball courts if you are looking for an outdoor activity on a sunny afternoon. There is also an aquarium at the end of the pier, which is well worth a visit.

Venice Beach

Known for its vibrant and eclectic spirit, this buzzing beach town is a must-see. Here you will find street performers, colourful murals and eye-catching shops lining the iconic beachfront boardwalk. On Venice’s south side, be sure to stop by Abbot Kinney Boulevard, a mile-long road with a good mix of shops, restaurants and galleries. Along the way, you will find the Venice Canal Historic District, known for its picturesque canals.
