What a treat. With so many rooms potentially interconnected, the Hôtel Plaza Athénée is the ideal hotel for children and we treat them as our absolute VIP guests.
From our famous cuddly bear, Gustave, to a soft robe, or red slippers with a teddy bear’s head on them, we have a wide range of gifts just waiting to delight any age.
We can also arrange babysitting services, and our friendly concierge, who are never short of ideas, are at your disposal to suggest a family outing that will suit young and old alike. The hotel also has the famous ice rink during the winter months, little gourmet porcelain service, the kids (concierge) desk during school holidays, an Easter egg hunt and bespoke kids menus

At Hôtel Plaza Athénée we are proud to invest in the sustainable development of economic, social and environmental areas. It’s not only a commitment; we are undertaking real actions.
In 1999, a devastating storm hit the Palace of Versailles and caused monumental damage, so for the past 18 years, Hôtel Plaza Athénée has been working alongside the palace to replace 115 trees, as part of the 10,000 Trees for Versailles project.
Reducing our energy consumption
We’ve installed LED bulbs in 95% of our lighting. We’re also dedicated to recycling waste to create green fuel, donating products to charitable causes, switching electronic devices to standby, and regulating our air-conditioning and heating using a centralised management system.
We’re proud to serve a variety of organic and gluten-free options in our restaurants, to make the most of the finest seasonal produce.
Investing in our community
Hôtel Plaza Athénée works on increasing social responsibility and consistently supports the local community. One example is our partnership with La Roche-Guyon children’s hospital. Each month, our in-house committee organises activities, such as entertainment for the children, and helping out by organising volunteers to paint areas in the hospital.
The history of Hôtel Plaza Athénée
On April 20, 1913, Hôtel Plaza Athénée opened its doors with sixteen guestrooms per floor, apartments on the top floor and a restaurant overseen at the time by chef Jacques-Léon Colombier. The hotel soon became a new haunt for both composers and artists who regularly ate at the restaurant after an evening performance at the theatre.
Le Relais Plaza restaurant opened in 1936; its décor was entrusted to the interior designer Constant Lefranc, who transformed it into an Art Deco temple.
In 1947 Christian Dior set up his couture house on avenue Montaigne right next to Hôtel Plaza Athénée.
In 1999, François Delahaye became managing director and initiated key changes. He chose Alain Ducasse to supervise the hotel’s catering services and create the menu for the Alain Ducasse au Plaza Athénée restaurant, which obtained three Michelin stars in 2001. Meanwhile, chef Philippe Marc was appointed at Le Relais Plaza, and acclaimed pastry chef Christophe Michalak was appointed at La Galerie.
In 2001, Dorchester Collection announced the acquisition of Hôtel Plaza Athénée.
Le Bar was redesigned in June 2001 by designer Patrick Jouin and soon became one of the most popular destinations in Paris.
In 2003, Laurence Bloch, the hotel’s manager, commissioned interior designers Bettina Mortemard and Marie-José Pommereau to decorate the 194 guestrooms, which included 46 suites.
Two years later, a 450m²/4,844ft² Royal Suite opened on the fifth floor and 2008 saw the launch of the Eiffel Suite with unparalleled views of the Eiffel Tower. That same year, the Dior Institut opened at the hotel and received the Living Heritage Company (Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant) prize in 2011.
In 2012 Hôtel Plaza Athénée was awarded the official French distinction of ‘palace’, and on April 20, 2013, the iconic hotel celebrated its centenary, 100 years to the day from when it opened.
A time capsule was created to mark the occasion, in which objects from the past and from present were included to be passed down to future generations for the next 25 years.
In 2016, Angelo Musa, pastry chef awarded Meilleur Ouvrier de France 2007 and World Champion in 2003, joins the team at Hôtel Plaza Athénée.
