ESG

At Hôtel Plaza Athénée, we recognise the impact we make on society, the economy and the planet, and aim to make a positive difference in the place we operate, in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. That’s why environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) aren’t simply pillars that guide us – it’s who we are.

Fostering a circular economy

It is our primary objective to limit waste as much as possible and give a second life to everything that can have one.

Soap recycling
We work closely with the non-profit organisation SapoCycle to reprocess our used soap bars into hygienic products, which are then distributed to children and families in need. In 2025, nearly 20kg of soap was collected from Hôtel Plaza Athénée.
Cork recycling
We recycle and resell our corks to raise funds for France Cancer, helping to support their fight against cancer through national research organisations. In 2025, we recycled and sold over 8kg of cork.
Food distribution
Every month, we volunteer with the French charity Restos du Cœur to distribute food packages and hot meals to those in need.
Les Hôtels Solidaires
In partnership with the association Les Hôtels Solidaires, we donate uneaten pastries, hygiene products, bedding and furniture, which are then redistributed to people in vulnerable situations. In 2025, over 8 tonnes of pastries, bread and vegetables were collected from Hôtel Plaza Athénée, alongside six pairs of shoes, 24 steamers and 54 double beds.
Systemised sorting

In line with our objectives, we have designed an effective system to sort, reduce and optimise our waste as much as possible. 

Waste recycling
We have reached an average waste recovery rate of 60%, a figure that has been steadily increasing since 2021.
Waste reduction
During our renovation in 2025, we donated a variety of materials to Parisian fashion schools, such as the Lycée Paul Poiret and the International Fashion Academy.
Plastic reduction
We’re working to remove plastic from our rooms and suites and significantly reduce plastics in delivery packaging.
Energy consumption 

To reduce our energy consumption by 40% by 2030, we’re working to optimise our current energy sources and outgoings. 

Technical building management
Our technical building management strategy allows us to control our energy consumption by operating, maintaining and optimising our mechanical, electrical and structural infrastructure while preserving our heritage.
Renewable energy
100% of our energy comes from renewable sources such as wind and solar.
Cooling network
Our air conditioning is provided by Fraîcheur de Paris to effectively and sustainably cool our historic building.
Responsible transport
We work with Chabé to provide our private chauffeur services, who use a low-carbon fleet of vehicles as well as hybrid and fully electric models.

We regularly participate in training and development to embed sustainability into our operations while keeping on top of any environmental government changes.
Charity support
Alongside our charity partners, we also regularly work with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to grant a magical stay to children and young people who are fighting life-threatening illnesses.
Collaboration
Collaboration across our different departments is key to our progress. Our Green Team represents each department and manages sustainable development issues as they arise.
