One of life's finest secrets
The British love affair with ‘a cup of tea’ is enacted daily in homes throughout the land. Afternoon tea at The Dorchester is the definitive experience, full of tradition, celebration and a tremendous amount of cake. This is an indulgently warm and delicious occasion and one not to be missed.
How it all began
Did you know that afternoon tea has been a British tradition since 1840? While times have changed, it remains a treasured part of our culture – and a perfect excuse to indulge. To learn more, we talk to Lewis Hunter, who shares his tips for afternoon tea etiquette.
With a new season comes a whole new selection of afternoon tea delights, courtesy of our master pastry team. Enjoy traditional afternoon tea, perhaps with a glass of champagne as you indulge in our favourite past time. There’s no better way to celebrate an occasion or spend time with friends and family.

Children's afternoon tea
When creating a new children’s afternoon tea menu, we thought who better to design it than children themselves? Together with the budding chefs from our partner school, Manorfield Primary, our chef has created a fanciful feast of scrumptious treats, bite-size sandwiches, cupcakes and more.
